Phonon transport in semiconductor devices is modeled at present using diffusion theory based on the Fourier law ~e.g., @4,6,7#!. However, past work has illustrated the impact of non-local, or sub-continuum, phonon conduction in relatively simple geometries, including thin films, superlattices, and polycrystalline materials @1,8,9#.

Therefore it is crucial to take into account the absorption by scattering states in the simulations for wide band gap semiconductors. 22 Jun 2018 Two-photon absorption (2PA) is an optical nonlinear process in which 2PA spectra a tunable laser or a high intense white light continuum (WLC) of any nonlinear medium ranging from semiconductors to organic solution 1 Oct 2015 of the water vapor self-continuum absorption in the 2.1 μm atmospheric window Temperature dependence on bandgap of semiconductor  14 Aug 1998 6.1 Photo-induced intraband absorption of the n.i.d. sample . In semiconductor alloys, fluctuations in composition broaden the exciton making the absorption features less distinct. However, the continuum absorption of the exciton still influences the absorption spectra, even when the excitonic features are no longer clearly visible.

For realistic situations, increases more rapidly than the exciton-state spacing so that one typically resolves only few lowest exciton resonances in actual experiments. Intersubband absorption experiments under application of an electric field have only been performed on isolated quantum wells.A crucial issue for the understanding of any semiconductor structure is the question of how the current-voltage characteristics are related to the energy level structure. This is observed experimentally in an AlInAs/GaInAs heterostructure as a dramatic narrowing of the bound-to-continuum absorption spectrum. In the superlattice limit the quarter-wave stacks behave as Bragg reflectors and the localized resonance becomes a bound state, a phenomenon observed at cryogenic temperatures. This is a more general expression for absorption that can account for both free carrier and excitonic absorption.

We demonstrate a two-photon selection rule reversal of circularly polarized light by the competition of two contributions from different bands. The optical absorption properties of free-standing InAs nanomembranes of thicknesses ranging from 3 nm to 19 nm are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Stepwise absorption at room temperature is observed, arising from the interband transitions between the subbands of 2D InAs nanomembranes. Interestingly, the absorptance associated with each step is measured to be ∼1.6% OSTI.GOV Journal Article: Spatiotemporal dynamics of photon echoes from continuum states in semiconductors Title: Spatiotemporal dynamics of photon echoes from continuum states in semiconductors Full Record absorption with the Molecular Response Theory lineshape, based on physical principles and measurements, an accurate continuum absorption is obtained within four THz absorption windows, that agrees well with the empirical theory. The absorption is significantly smaller than that obtained using the van Vleck-Weisskopf lineshape with a 750 GHz cut responsible for the absorption, multiplied by the square of frequency [see, e.g., Clough et al., 1989; Ma a•rt Tipping, 1990]. Hence a reduced continuum absorption is defined here as c: - v-'o-3e, H20 (4) where ct is the total measured absorption in pure water vapor.
